The Milkman always rings twice...or was that the postman?

I could hardly believe it when Michael told me he saw a milkman delivering milk one morning on his way to work. WHAT?! Are you sure I asked him...he was sure.

I knew I had to investigate and if I found the milk was being delivered in glass jars too I was going to be on the milkman's route ASAP!  While on the phone one day with my dear English friend Pat I asked her if they really did still have milkman's here in England. She confirmed this fact by having me listen on the phone while she clinked her glass milk jars together! OH MY I am gonna have milk in jars!

I hung up the phone and went online to set up my account. Okay...so obviously June Cleaver didn't go online to order her old fashion milk in jars but we can't halt all progress. I set up my order to be delivered on Friday and then I had to wait. Two whole days I had to keep this secret from my friends in America and my family. I held out for almost 5 minutes when Michael called home and asked what I was doing.

"Nothing I told him...giggle giggle."  He laughed and said "what are you up too now?"  I said "I cant tell you its a secret...(short pause) BUT WE ARE GETTING OUR OWN MILKMAN!"  Yes just like my Grandpa Wright I cannot keep a secret, especially if it is something fun. I ended up telling Gabby later that day and then held onto my secret until now. I even posted a taunting status update on Facebook letting everyone know I had something special happening today but I could not tell them. I ALMOST broke down and told my friend Rayanna. She moved here to England about the same time we did and I really wanted to tell her but I held tight and didn't spill the beans, er milk in this case.

So....I was pretty sure I heard the milkman come thru my gate this morning near 7 am but I wanted to let Gabby be the one to see the milk first so once she came downstairs 7:05 to head out to the school bus I said "hey would you check and see if our milk is here?" Sure enough she opened the door, I peeked around her and squealed like a kid on her birthday! "WHERE'S MY CAMERA?!!"  We both made a dash for camera and Princess sat there in front of the door wide open wondering what all the excitement was.

What can I say? Little things make me happy, I never dreamed in this day and age people still had milkman's or that if they did it still came in glass jars. Truth be known...if it was delivered in cartons I probably wouldn't have ordered it. I always wanted to be June Cleaver in my pearls, high heels, skirt and opening my door to the milkman each week...now if I could just get Michael to give me a lovely strand of pearls at Christmas I am a whole lot closer to that dream.

Got milk...I do.

Well, my milk is in glass. Of course, the cow is the only one who delivers it, and I have to go out and get it. But it's in glass when we're done!

I'm so happy you got your milkman and your milk is in glass containers! Would if I could too. We had a milkman for many years here until someone stole the little metal cooler right off the front stoop. :(

Enjoy!

I guessed wrong & I missed your call last night. My TV was going & the bell on the phone in my room was turned off. But I had already guessed that the Beamer was getting fixed. So I was wrong. We still have home milk delivery here but the milk is in cartons. When I was a kid we had milk delivery...right from the cow via my dad. It is a lovely convience, as I went out in the pouring rain yesterday to get milk at Fred's.

That is such a wonderful memory for Gabby - finding real live milk at the door in glass bottles. You ARE living the life.

That is so funny! I listen to a podcast of the BBC radio program The Archers, and some of the characters on there run a dairy farm and their milk is delivered by milkmen on a rural route. So I guess I knew there were milkmen in England, but now I know for SURE!
