I'm having a party on Sunday and as I am preparing the house for guest it got me to thinking. Why do we save the good stuff for everyone but ourselves?
I'll be pulling out the good 2 ply quilted toilet paper for my friends...but save the "on sale" 1 ply almost sandpaper tissue for my family. My fancy wedding china will be dusted off and used, brand new hand towels to wipe hands on and I am even considering polishing the silver. I hesitate on the silver cause I'm not sure I can trust all these ladies and would hate to count it all before they leave. LOL! Joke!
But why don't we spoil ourselves with the good stuff every day? Why wait for special occasions? I think for one reason the "good stuff" is more expensive. And things like my China I know I can't just run to Walmart and replace should Michael drop a plate on the floor. And we really don't need all that quilting on our bums so the cheap tissue works just fine. I think the other reason is the "good stuff" wouldn't seem as special if we used it every day and when I have friends over my main objective ...besides having fun is to make sure they feel special and know that I went all out for them.
Chances are pretty high that they would never notice what kind of toilet tissue I had in the bathroom but I always notice. LOL! I always comment to my Mom when I am home visiting how she has the best toilet paper, she thinks its funny but I bet she gets it just for me. Nah...actually I know she uses the good stuff every day, maybe I should too I mean we only go around once in this life, unless you had some bad Mexican food for lunch and then you may be going a LOT.
Now where is that fancy soap?

I used to do the same thing. Now I spoil myself and Todd with the good stuff daily. Life's too short to do otherwise! xxoo
Use the good stuff every day, except maybe the china. but bring it out occasionally and treat yourself. always treat yourself some how some way...
LOL what a great entry! We use 2 ply everyday. We should get out the good china more often, shouldn't we?!
You'll always get 2-ply at my house. But I understand the rest of your post. I've actually got my good dishes for sale since I really don't have room to store them anymore & all my company dinners are now at the clubhouse. I'm not dragging the good china up there. I do have four dinner plates with Christmas designs and they will be coming out soon for use during the month of December. I agree with Marie...life's too short to not enjoy the good things we have squirreled away. Your cookie party is going to be a huge success & a yearly English tradition at your house. xxoo
At least you have the good stuff. I never had china. Or silver. Silk napkins. Real crystal. Etc.I disagree that we should use the good stuff all time & agree that keeping it for "good" makes it all the more special.I have winter plates and serveware, napkins and stemware. that's as "good" as my good stuff goes. LOL
Barb, did you register when you got married? All of our china, silver and crystal came as wedding gifts. I still use the crockpot and several serving platters I got too from our wedding.
Truth be known I do actually buy 2ply for us but I do tend to get whatever is on sale which isnt usually the nicest stuff.
I'm going through some old posts and I've only just seen this one, it's nice to know that you think we were all 'special' enough to have the good toilet paper! I always buy the good stuff, Andrex Puppies on a Roll, not just because it's soft but I like the little puppies embossed on it! Peter thinks I'm mad of course...perhaps I am!
I also save my Mum's crystal glasses for special occasions, I'm afraid of breaking them.
