English stranger ~"Are you queuing?"
Me ~ "Bless you."
English stranger ~No...are you in the Que?
Me~ I beg your pardon?
I was perplexed by this word "Que" I kept hearing when we arrived in England. It seemed like everywhere I went that had large amounts of people wanting to pay for something or board something someone would ask me if I was "queuing!" I wasn't sure if this was an insult or a compliment...turns out it's neither!
It was finally the day we went to the H&M clothing store to get Gabby some school clothes that I figured it out! As I was heading to the cash register I saw a sign "Que Here" and people WAITING in LINE! Yes folks we say waiting in line!!!! Here in England we Que! LOL!
It might seem like the oddest thing to my English friends but I feel better about queuing then I do waiting in line. Waiting in line seems like it could take forever...you just don't know do you? You get in a line and it could be a short wait or a very long wait...it's the feeling of possibly never getting to the front of the line that really agitates someone. But queuing is altogether different. It feels more like a strong verb to me...an action word, something that means I am MOVING and not just standing and WAITING.
So from now on I que...God bless you? No...not achoooo, just Que. :)

I LOVE this!! I like the term - To Que as well. IT sounds much more polite.
I loved that - and "mind the gap" - I even got a little plaque that said that when I was in London :-) Keep posting girly - I love you living over there!
They just put a new H & M store in at the Tacoma Mall. I haven't been there yet as I think their stuff is for young people of which I am not! As long as I don't have to "que for the loo" I wouldn't mind.
That's so funny.
I remember learning what the word "que" meant when listening to an old Hollie's song when I was a kid, Bustop. One of the lines was "thinking of a big romance/beginning in a que."
I knew what you were talking about. I just don't know how I learned the word que. Probably a crossword puzzle-I used to be crazy for them. Computer takes too much time. LOL I won't be in many ques for weeks. And it's getting OLD. So glad you are getting to live this adventure.
I qued in public once and got fined!
You make your move so positive and exciting. I love hearing about all of your new adventures:)
